At last night’s event I experienced something that I hope I never have to do again from a 6 hour graduation event. I played all the Music purely from Spotify they didn’t want any beat mixing at all.
They kept constantly requesting requesting requesting songs. It didn’t matter if the previous track was 130bpm or 90bpm or 60bpm. I had no problem with this because the event planner was specifically looking for a DJ that would take requests, so I already knew what I was getting into.
I connected the iPad/Spotify to channel 1 and Laptop/Spotify audio out to channel 2. I told them to search the requested song on the iPad and add it to the queue and it would automatically show up in the laptop Spotify queue.
The mixing style was to let the entire song play or if the song was too long then just lower the volume a bit and play the next song. I felt very weird but the event was a success. The planner said she will be calling me more now because she said it’s very difficult for her to find DJs that would do this.
I didn’t know how to feel, I felt weird in shock, at times I felt like blowing up, upset, disturbed. But I kept my cool and got it done. I don’t know if this is a good thing or not or if this is the future of djing (Im hope this was only a one time thing) but I have a feeling this might be the future of djing. Mixing is not needed at all. smh
There are a lot of ways to go about this and youy need to find a method that works for you. I’m going to share my thoughts and explain how I’m going to organize my crates in a way that will be perfect for me.
If you are using a method that works for you feel free to share it in the comment section.
